Filming in the rain on your phone
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answeriPhones are water-resistant, not waterproof, so keep the phone under cover between shots, wipe the lens often, and use a clear pouch in heavy rain. Rain looks best backlit by streetlights or shop windows.
Protect the phone
- Film from under an awning or umbrella.
- A clear waterproof pouch in heavy rain.
- Dry it before charging; iPhone may warn about liquid in the port.
Clear lens
Drops on the lens blur everything. Wipe often with a soft cloth.
Great rain shots
- Reflections in puddles.
- Rain lit from behind by lights.
- Slow motion drops.
Questions
Is my iPhone waterproof?
No. Water resistance isn’t permanent and can decrease over time.
