Filming a road trip safely
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerOnly passengers should film. Drivers must not touch phones while driving. Use a proper mount for dash views, film talking clips at stops, and back up each evening.
Safety first
Road laws about phones and mounts differ by place. The driver should never handle the phone.
Shots
- Passenger window views.
- A mounted forward view (set up before driving).
- Stops: wide selfies, scenery, food.
- Time-lapse of the road (mounted).
Heat
Phones on dashboards in the sun overheat. Shade the phone or mount it near a vent.
Questions
Can I film while driving?
No. Set up before you drive, or let a passenger film.
